(sorry for the repost, glitch on the original required removal/repost). I am curious to hear people’s thoughts on this partnership. Do you see an advantage to having 3D printing being included in a solution from such a major IT hardware and services provider? Any wishlist items you want me to communicate back to the mothership? #iwork4Dell

@Dell1 is now partnering with @MakerBot1 ! Dell is adding industry-leading MakerBot 3D printers to compliment their Precision workstation lineup, creating the perfect solution for anyone looking to get into desktop 3D printing. #iwork4Dell

@Paul_Nicholson_pwnic I think one of the principal things you’ll discover is that this community is a little anti-makerbot as a result of their move from open to closed source in a fairly douchey way and the inferred f-you to the open source maker community (that had been contributing to makerbot up until that point). A large proportion of the active members of this community are using open source machines and makerbot is usually seen as an overly marketed and costly option with few benefits against open source options. You may want to direct your questions towards more of a 'pro’sumer demographic.
@Tim_Rastall Thanks for the feedback Tim. I definitely noticed the opensource/homemade lean for the community, but didn’t know the backstory of the open-to-close transition for MakerBot. #iwork4Dell
@Paul_Nicholson_pwnic fyi, there is some movement for marlin compatible win 8.1 drivers, but nothing that is really stable, or better workflow then what we have now. I am trying to test things (also trying to get M.S. to use UFID in there drivers set for marlin based printers, some small traction)
