Starting a new thread on this since I hijacked the comments in the other thread regarding the SK9822 LEDs. Daniel, I’ll let you do the math again if you want.

Hardware: Teensy 3.2 and 1M w/ 144 SK9822 LEDs

I added a 74HCT125 to my setup which didn’t seem to help when I raised the speed above 12MHz so I ended up lowering the Teensy from 96MHz to 72MHz.

That did the trick and from there I’ve been able to move the clock speed all the way up to 60MHz without any issues. Whether that speed is legit or not I will say no. With all 144 LEDs being used my fps counter was hovering around 6500. I changed the program to only use 20 LEDs which then was giving me around 11,000 fps. I’ll let people make their own assumptions but either way I’m still impressed with these things.

Nice! I’m curious how those speeds handle > 1m lengths :). - but you’re pushing about 30Mbps

Even if those numbers aren’t totally accurate that’s still sweet, especially if the display looks good.

Yeah great work @Brian_Lewis that is a remarkable speed

I’ve done a little more testing today with different animations instead of the discostrobe animation by Mark. I find that I can’t run a lot of the demoreel animations for very long before there are issues if the clock speed is set above 40 and even then sometimes I have to lower the LED count. Still waiting for Ray Wu on Aliexpress to ship the 3 meters of strip that I ordered last Friday. A test with longer lengths will be the true test.

What do you mean by issues? Freezes, display errors, partial lighting?

If it’s the same thing as the apa102 - when the clock rate is too high and the strip is too long the leds after the first 100-200 start glitching out like mad - there’s been a lot of discussion about the apa102 and maximize clock speeds here as a result

@marmil mostly freezing but every so often the LEDs will get glitchy. Even the simple sinelon doesn’t seem to run as well as the disco strobe animation. I find that odd since disco strobe has more math involved. Obviously there’s a lot of factors at play. I had an animation freeze after 30 minutes but as of now the same one has been going for 4 hours without issues and all I did was reset the board.
