State of my 3D printer with overhang x axis, it is possible to get good smooth print result but to arrive there I needed to pay attention to every nut and bolt. Basically zero wiggle room. Especially the z gantry and x gantry and getting the openbuilds wheel to grip the aluminum extrusion firmly also take some trial and error but once I’m happy with the grip it is worth it
X travel speed up to 200mm/s no issue. The moving y bed still the biggest limitation of this printer as I find it anything above 60mm/s print speed is starting to push the limit…
@Peter_Carlson How’s your experience with the Reach3D? I’m really about to pull the trigger on one, and I also am very interested in the laser option. It seems like a higher end starter kit, but it’s on the edge of my price range… thoughts?
@Rodger_Cooley I have been quite happy with my Reach3D. I was a total nubee so it has been a great way to learn about 3d printing, the parts, the tweeking and following up on the stuff one runs into like warping etc. Not to say that it’s all problems, in fact you can get decent prints right away but this hobby is still very much a learn as you go thing. The kit is pretty easy to put together, instructions easy to understand and the forum help has been great. Not sure what the price is now (I got as Kickstarter) but seems to me from the year of research I have done on printers that this is a good value for the print volume it gives you. Be prepared to get hooked or give up because there is so much to learn no matter what printer you get.
