@Stephanie_A This is what I’m running now in my CoreXY, it’s been working fine for over a year. Before that, I had the Y carriage idlers at the same height and the belts crossing at the front of the bot, as is shown in @Daniel_Newman 's Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/d-newman/sets/72157645313526624/
After trying various things, my opinion is that people worry too much about CoreXY belt arrangements, you can do some weird-looking stuff and still have it work perfectly. Just gotta make sure all the belt runs through moving idlers are parallel/perpendicular and the rest of it is just details.
And yes, this printer is long overdue for some upgrade work, it’s kind of limping along with periodic PLA part failures (HATE PLA ARGH…) and I’ve been too busy working on my much-cooler printer designs to do anything with this one. It just works too well to take it apart for a rebuild.
@Ryan_Carlyle I agree wholeheartedly. PLA is by far my least favorite filament. There are so many great alternatives out there, PETG being my favorite.
ABS is my hated - PETG is nice, unless you get red. That stuff prints like warm grease.
I love ABS, but only in a well-heated and fume-filtered enclosure. Miserable stuff any other way. PETG is nice.
Anything beats PLA though for mechanical parts. It frickin’ creeps under load at room temp. And it doesn’t just creep to deformation, it will easily creep to ultimate failure. (Ever had PLA snap in your feed tube after sitting a few days? Yeah, that’s creep to failure.)
