Strange thermal problems

I’m running an E3Dv6 12v hotend off an Azteeg X5 Mini v3. The hotend heats up VERY quickly compared to every other hotend I’ve used. With the fan on, it runs up to 240 in no more than a minute. I like the quick heating, but it ALWAYS runs to, and stays at, 15-20 degrees above the instructed temp.

I’ve run PID tuning many times and the numbers only vary slightly between runs.

I have the thermistor set to Semitec in my config file, as instructed on the ED3 site.

This is the second such Azteeg board on which the behavior is identical, so I’m inclined to rule out a board problem.

Even worse, yesterday prints started failing mid-print with a console error of Temperature took too long to be reached on T, HALT asserted, TURN POWER OFF IMMEDIATELY - reset or M999 required and then the machine stops communicating with a Firmware unresponsive warning.

These HALTS are occurring with the hotend reading 15-20 degrees above spec temp, but I have the “tolerance” set to the max of 63 degrees in config.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I’m having the same issues with my re-arm board from Panucatt as well.
even with PID autotune the temps reported are erratic and have gone as high as 280c during the autotune.
when I set a temp say 190c it overshoots by a large margin and then the warning as well.
I’m using the same Semitec sensor. I’m using the Edge firmware at the moment and I’m going to go back to the stable firmware for it and see what it does.
Everything else on the board is working like it should, even the reprap GLCD work. Even got a MKS TFT32 to work on it.
Wish I was where I could post my config file for inspection but I’m at work at the moment.
