Struggling with ripples on a single wall print.

Struggling with ripples on a single wall print. one face of wall is smooth while the other face has a regular ripple with a sort of shark tooth profile. If I print a hollow test cube all faces pointing in the same direction are smooth whilst their back faces are rippled.
Any suggestions as to what might be causing this issue?

I had some of that and i tighten my Y belt less that 1/2 turn and fixed it. Due to backlash.Might be different depending on your belt tension.

Can you post a picture, hard to tell based on your description

@Wayne_Friedt Wouldn’t that show on both faces of a single wall
@Eric_Moy Will try to get a pic up later

You would think so, i just tried it because i could see deflection in the belt in one direction of travel and it helped me.

@Wayne_Friedt
tightened the belts right up, no difference. probably worth doin anyway so a good suggestion.

Darn

Could it possibly be the end of a belt rubbing against something causing a ratcheting effect, i.e., running smooth in one direction, while sticking and moving in the other

Could be the axis that is printing for that direction is lose or misaligned. I’ve also seen on prints where that happens that your bed in that section is slightly out of alignment causing the print layers in an area not to adhere correctly.

With your motors off, do your stages move smooth and freely. I’m wondering if a stage is overconstrained and binding

Thanks for the help guys, turns out hot end was partialy blocked causing filament to extrude sideways. Cleaned hot end & seems to be ok now.
Tried to photograph the ribbing but couldnt get it to show up properly.
