Suddenly it was gone

Bought 3.8kg PETG 14 days ago. I thought I would have filament quite a while but It was too much fun to print figurines Vases and a lot of other stuff with PETG and large nozzles. Now it is no more printing before I can afford some more filament.

How sensitive is PETG to humidity compard to PLA?

@Alex_Skoruppa And vases printed with 1.5mm nozzle and 1.3 mm layer

@Cornelius_Wiens PETG is a hydrophobic and does not absorb water.

@Jan_erik_Halvorsen good to know, I can go months between printing so I’ll try some PETG next.

@Jan_erik_Halvorsen I beg to differ - it absorbs more slowly, but it does absorb.

PETG that I’ve had for over a year now prints with a “sandy” texture - but after drying at 50C for 8 hours, is back to glassy smooth.

@Jason_McMullan That’s what the manufacturer says.
From the manufacturer’s website
High clarity prints
• Very easy to print with
• Extremely strong
• Very small chance of warping
• Hydrophobic (Does not absorb water)
• FDA approved
• No unpleasant smell when printing

Some of the additives might actually end up absorbing water. E3D demonstrated that (vastly) improperly stored Edge will look to print similarly to fresh material, but makes the finished print more brittle.

It wouldn’t be the first time a manufacturer was misleading about its products. The data I’m seeing shows PETG as having up to 0.2% moisture take-up. When you use it very quickly after opening like you did, it probably doesn’t matter.

Did not find much information about PETG but seem like PET Absorb water. Do not know if glycol modified PET changes properties from hygroscopic to hydrophobic maybe manufacturer misspelled.

from Wikipedia
(Drying
PET is hygroscopic, meaning Thats it Absorb water from its surroundings.)
