Suggestions Please:

I am hoping to print a surface model (non-manifold) with Vase mode. I attached a picture of an example from Meshmixer. Does anyone know of a Slicer that can do this… If not, does anyone have a hack or script that can be added to slice this?

thanks

I am a bit confused: How do you want to print in single spiral move with non-interrupted Z increase if the surface is open (from the lowest opening point) like on the picture?

PS: You can reorient the model with the opening on the build plate, but I am afraid the print with single wall will fail on surfaces with small angle from verticals. (The next layers are not sufficiently supported by previous.)

Thanks for the quick response @Tomas_Vit . I was thinking that the Z increase could continue non-interrupted but extruder would pause on the travel movement across the void until it gets back to the model.

Additionally, I meant this as a sample and not my primary goal so reorienting wouldn’t always work.

I would try and see if you can cap the model in such a way that it is manifold and print in slic3r / cura vase mode. Getting the correct surface to be open is the tricky part…

If you want a tilted top opening, you need a tilted base parallel to the opening. Also, the model for vase modes can’t have “inside features”.
