(support) I am a little confused with hook up with ws2812B with a resistor. Are we required to use a resistor between 220K to 470K ohm before hooked up the first pixel? I had tested with a resistor the pixels won’t turn on, so I decided to rid of a resistor. Is that ok?
220K is much too large. Try a 220 ohm resistor.

There is a good section on resistors and reasons. You can connect them directly to the IO pin However it’s better to be safe and use one. If you don’t use one there is a chance that you could damage the First pixel.
I always use 100ohm…
I never use a resistor. They are useless if you always connect and disconnect the strip or pixel with NO power. IE: Never connect or disconnect a strip from an active (powered-up) microcontroller.
A resistor will help mantain a correct signal waweform… if you have an oscilloscope you can try yourself. Usually a 100 ohm is enough
