Sweet! $1,100 - $1,300 compared to MakerBot (~$2,500)

I haven’t fully compared this between other 3D printers yet :] (including the MakerBot)
(I’ll be waiting on someone to do that for me… Then I’ll be sharing the news.)

And of course, sorry if you want one of these instead of one that you already bought!

@John_Turek - I see your next weekend!

It looks like it has an acrylic bed and a single extruder. They should not compare to the price of the replicator 2x as this machine is not comparable. They can compare it to the replicator 2, which is a hefty 2.2k. I just don’t like misleading advertising. If it’s a good machine, you don’t need to mislead.

It honestly looks like a giant Mendel max. The makerbot will give more stable prints as only the z is attached to the bed so the part only moves in the z. This design has the y axis attached to the bed. Still not a bad price considering what you get.

But still out of my budget in all honesty

I’m hoping my $350 machine will beat that print area and costs. Total with every thing is about $400.

What machine is it @Mike_Ashcraft ? :slight_smile:

@Amelior_Scout Prusa i3. I’m basing it off the fact that most of my rods are 3 foot or 1 meter so I’m going to attempt the build using the full length rods where ever possible.

It is really an experiment as it only costs me a bit extra to order a few extra rods rather than cutting one down to length.

Lets hope it works because if it does I’m guessing the build area will be about 750mm in the x,y,z.

:open_mouth: awesome! (I’m assuming that’s good since I’ve never - well, basically - 3D printed!)

Most prusa i3’s have a build area of about 190mm X 190mm X 120mm tall.

So even if I have to cut the rods down to get say 300mm build area I’m still ahead of the game.

This doesn’t look that great to me. The side bars are just stuck in there and a one sided connection to hold everything square. They aren’t even cut at the proper angle to line up with the uprights or the bottom frame.
I don’t see anything special here other than it is over priced.

It also has the old reprap z-axis setup which is known to be silly. Put the motors under the rod so the z-axis sits rather than hangs.
