Talk about the perfect Octoprint host! (doubly so if it could draw power from the USB cable from the Printer Controller) one cable in, one cable to the camera, done!
Finally!! Been wanting this for quite some time. I’m sold on staying with octoprint.
Nice, no more soldering on USB hubs to plug in wifi
Can’t find in the US…had to to Pi Hut
nice but… Sorry, you can only order a maximum of 1 Raspberry Pi Zero W
I have a friend in the UK…
@Samer_Najia Adafruit will carry them, but they are out of stock at the moment.
I’ve got Octoprint installed in the 1.3 version and sadly is not possible to power it form the USB cable, you have to use the power micro USB. In order to use a camera and the printer you need a hub
You could step down the voltage from the power supply and send it through a micro usb cable to the Pi. Or couldn’t you use the power output on the RAMPS board normally used for Extruder 1 (the second extruder)?
I used to use a buck converter because I was using 12v but now I just use a phone charger. Using the Ramps USB connector is not possible because It does not supply enough power and the raspberry keeps rebooting.
Control boards have a diode that doesn’t allow for current to flow out of the USB. You could tap into the 5V line possibly if the board’s regulator is strong enough, but that’s quite a risk. I would just power it off a little 5V reg externally
Might be better to dig into the MK2’s powersupply with a buck converter then.
I just ordered a package with a W at Adafruit
Cool
