You have to take a breath back when you see these 3D printed functional scale models of internal combustion engines, transmissions and even a 1:3 full Toyota power train. Also think: You can print them yourself! Just go to http://www.3Dprintedengines.com. (And he’s printing it with a $150 kit printer!)

a) link is a parking domain
b) please explain “functional”

3dprintedengines looks like…well…nothing? Just a domain parking page.

Mmm if I enter “http://3dprintedengines.com” (no www), it gets redirected to Thingiverse - Digital Designs for Physical Objects. Maybe that “www” thing spoils redirection. (I added it to fool G+ for hyper link.)

In my mind, “functional” means the entire assembly moves like the original power chain (except driven by electric motor, not internal combustion)

A lot of people are very critical of wording in this forum  perhaps we should call something like that “simulated functionally”

I want need this in my life

I really should get to building these.

I think “functional print” is kind of a term that already has meaning in the community, which might be causing confusion. For example, there’s a Reddit community about functional prints.

@Tim_Visible Good to know. My original post, though, speaks of functional scale model. (As opposed to, say, die cast scale models that are not functional. Even many mobile scale models are not necessarily functional.)

how useful is this object to an investor?
