Test of arduino pro mini + MSGEQ7 in a bad quality video.
And how did you build it?
Very cool. I like how you divided it up but still kept it one long strip.
I used one 2 meters pmma tube with strip ws2832 118leds. I coded seven groups of 16 leds, one group per frequency.
Would love to see the code and wiring! Looks great!
Looks really cool !!
Awesome! Looks great. Would love to see some code.
@Michael_Varagnat May I ask where you sourced the pmma tube? it looks really good - and I’m always on the hunt for cool materials to use as diffusers
@chad_steinglass I’m actually developing this device especially for an artist order. I can’t give the code before the show in june.
@Michael_Varagnat OK, though I don’t need code or anything - I’m happy to experiment and learn for myself. Just curious about the material and if its widely available and possibly inexpensive
I’m not familiar with PMMA, and certainly not competing in any way. Though I understand if you want to keep everything proprietary.
For example, 1 inch diameter PEX pipe is pretty good, but a little too flexible for some of the things I want to build. schedule 40 PVC is too opaque. I’ve tried to find special thin wall PVC, but I can’t seem to find it retail, only wholesale for irrigation systems.
Also just wanted to add a big thank you for posting some of your projects! There’s no better inspiration for one’s own creativity than seeing the cool things that people build.
@chad_steinglass Unfortunately this kind of tube is not cheap, I spent around 40€ for one tube to a plastic manufacturer because i didn’t find a other way to have this result.

However the cloud is easy to make and cheap, there are many ‘cloud light’ tutorial on youtube. With a led strip and the exemples in fastled library you could have good results.
@Michael_Varagnat ahh - bummer, but thanks for sharing. It does look great, but that’s certainly a little pricey to be just playing around with. There’s a plastics company not far from me in NYC, so maybe I’ll go check out what they have…
Here’s a pic from Halloween this year of a 60/m ws2812b strip which I then covered in one layer of white felt and then fed it through 1 inch diameter PEX pipe (common plumbing pipe - this was $5 for a 5 foot section at Home Depot). I’m pretty happy with it, but the light isn’t quite uniform all the way around the pipe, and I’m always looking for improvement!
