Thank you Thomas Sanladerer  for your Printrbot Simple Metal Kit series of video.

Thank you @Thomas_Sanladerer for your Printrbot Simple Metal Kit series of video. I am now a happy Printrbot Metal owner (built from Kit).

Those of you who owns a Printrbot Simple Metal, what do you recommend as the first few upgrades?

Congrats! Not a Simple owner, but I’d go for a heated bed. ABS is fun! And challenging. And fun!

The machine is in my office and I have a tiny baby around. Plus it doesn’t have an enclosure so I don’t think I want ABS. but I heard the heated bed helps pla print too.

It’s true. I use heat printing PLA and nylon too.

First upgrade should be a fan shroud, putting the air directly on the nozzle is best. Too much air is bad but that stock fan shouldn’t be too powerful

I would go for this https://www.youmagine.com/designs/extruderknob-for-printrbot-simple-metal

That’s a cool item Kurt. Gonna print it next.

Perhaps you’ll add the dampers? https://www.youmagine.com/designs/damper-for-printrbot-simple-metal

Why do I want dampeners? Just for sound purposes?

Yes, it worked for me.

Cool. Do you have any recommendation to fix the raft being too strongly bonded with the object problem?

No, by now I’ ve never printed with raft. I use them in school so I have to make the printing time a short as possible.

I can’t wait to get my printrbot plus!! I owned a 3d cubify and makerbot 5th gen and what a fiasco!! So I guess u can use the hot bed for PLA??

You can indeed, for PLA its more for convenience, you can stick very small parts to the bed without tape or spray more easily. For ABS it is more of a requirement.

@Jim_Wilson that’s great Jim! I hated the glue, and the blue tape I dint mind cuz it saved me the hustle of cleaning the glue… But with the heated bed and PLA I wouldn’t need any of those

@enhydra I sow a video last night in YouTube, it was a school teacher, he said that adding a dampener spacer In Between the motors and the mounts will decrease the sound by a lot??

Dunno about the printerbot metal but it was absolutely true with a Makerbot cupcake, it also had large flat surfaces that vibrated making lots of noise.

@Jim_Wilson man… The makerbot was a nightmare! It was so load! I couldn’t run it at night… But it would print with out getting a filament jam… So it’s not like I was gonna let it run at night successfully printing

@javierymirna Did not try it. But sounds good…
