Thanks in advance!!! In preparation for my PrintrBot Plus what should I buy as far as consumable supplies… I have filiment on the way, do I need to stock up on blue painters tape? If so what brand and Tack strength? Do I need to purchase PEI instead? Should I get some Kapton tape? Should I use 90% Isopropyl alcohol or denatured alcohol for cleaning? Sorry for all the Newb questions I just want to have all my supplies ready and no hiccups when I start to print. If I have missed any consumables please fill me in, I’m ready and willing to learn
If it’s a heated bed I’d recommend a sheet of glass and some elmers glue stick. Blue tape also works straight on the metal bed, but glue and glass is so much easier. I use glass on my D-Bot and tape on my Monoprice Mini Select. As for brand, I use 3M’s standard blue painter’s tape. I tried the Blue Hawk Lowe’s brand and I found it tore much easier than 3M. The other brand I’ve used with success is store brand from Kelly’s Paint. I don’t know if they have those where you live. One other negative to tape is the cost when you get into sizes wider than 3". So I buy the 3" roll and just lay it side by side. You will want alcohol for wiping down the tape. It helps remove the waxy surface on the tape. I use isopropyl. I actually like to buy alcohol prep pads. Much easier, but more expensive than just a bottle of alcohol. As for percentage, I’ve never really bought anything specific. Just whatever is cheapest. I’m using 90% right now.
Either kapton or pei if you add using the heated bed. I prefer pei since it releases easier after cooling. Blue tape for pla w/o heat. isopropyl works , but get some acetone too. Just go slow and do small simple stuff first
pla first, then others like abs and such.
Happy printing

@Brook_Drumm thanks Brother!!! Do I need to order a heated bed from you? Not quite sure what’s comming in the mail Friday… just took the day off from work to sign for the package
And as far a going small at first I have had a hard time doing that I always want to push the limits first then back off from there… must be a Kansas thing
No problem, few take that advice
it has a heated bed so your good. Let me know how it goes.

Will do!!! And did you want me to make up a PrintrBot edge lit acrylic sign done in some nice wood as my way of saying thank you? I am making one up for @Mark_Carew_OpenBuild over at Openbuilds for all his support as well
@Brook_Drumm something like https://plus.google.com/109807573626040317972/posts/9FUrUo1q3Pn only PrintrBot related?
On my previous life I had about 25 printers running. At that time they’re where acrylic beds. Blue tape was the winner for most situations. After I made some 10mm thick glass beds and used them with glue. By far the best experience in have had and have never looked elsewhere. This are mostly PLA prints. Never liked kapton but with some abs juice I had some success just a he’ll to remove
Can’t beat painters tape if you didn’t get a heated bed, but if you did then go straight to PEI. It’s sooooo much easier to work with than some other materials out there. Printed mostly abs on it when I was using it and it stuck great every print.
Personally I use glass on a heated bed with silicon thermal transfer squares for heat transfer. I use hairspray on the bed with PLA, don’t print anything else with it, not enclosed so ABS is no good for me, and I haven’t had a chance to try any of the fancy filaments.
@funinthefalls Silicon thermal transfer squares? Can you share a source? That sounds interesting.
I use BuildTak’s new FlexPlate on my Simple Metal. I really like how easy it is to remove the magnetic bed and it has zero issue with the inductive sensor. I am toying with the idea of swapping the top sheet of BuildTak with some PEI though. Check the link below for my quick review of it.

All over ebay, http://www.ebay.ca/itm/30pc-15mm-x-15mm-x-0-5mm-Silicone-Thermal-Pad-VGA-GPU-Chipset-Heat-Transfer-Sink-/162113943954?hash=item25bebe7992:g:hRMAAOSwNSxVH6Lr get the thinnest you can find. They are little squares of Silicon that transfer heat extremely well. And they hold the glass in place so no binder clips to bow the glass or get in the way of the print head.
@funinthefalls There’s no glass on the Printrbot Plus
Thanks for the heads up +Adam Steinmark
