That awkward moment…

#shoudveusedinfill haha. Happened to me before. Print looks amazing otherwise!

Yeah the printer auto-levels against the aluminum bed, so adding blue tape squishes the first layer really well… too well (not scratching).

Haha… “Do you even lift, bro?”
Yes. But not in that ABS way.

@Shai_Schechter , I actually want you to test something that we’ve been seeing on our prints. Make something out of PLA that’s pretty long in one axis, skinny in the other. We don’t know if height matters, but 40-50mm should be sufficient. Print it. Boom - print is done, and it’s stuck to the bed, right? Should be totally flat.

We’ve been peeling these prints off, and finding that after we peel them off of the bed, they start to curl. There’s some residual stresses in PLA that actually introduce curl even after the part is done, cooled off, and taken off the bed. You can see the effect even more if you print 2 of the same item, and place them bottom-to-bottom.

@ThantiK - Ok - thank you. I thought I was going nuts. I’ve been experimenting with printing directly on unheated sanded acrylic. Pretty impressed with the results. Pieces stick quite well. When I remove them, they appear to be stuck down all around - but once they are off, there is a slight, but definite curve to the bottom.

Do we need to let the piece sit there and cool longer?

@Alex_Wiebe , no! That’s the thing! We’ve peeled pieces off of our build plates 2 days after printing, and they’ve still exhibited this behavior.

Happens to me a few times, the printed bottom part is actually pulling the tape up during printing, those masking tapes peels off pretty easily with heat (even when heatbed is off, filament is pretty hot) I print on top off the usual glass, but with added white pva glue (it’s almost impossible to peel off when bed is heated, but peels off easy when cooled) pva tends to hardens when heated, but rubbery soft when cooled, washes easily with water, another trick is sandblasted glass bed, works both with pla and abs

@Aria_C_Bramanta I’ve had lots of issues with the print sticking really well to the tape and pulling the tape off the glass. That’s why I’m experimenting with direct to acrylic. And while it’s related, it’s not what I believe @ThantiK & I are observing.

What I’m seeing is the print is flat on the bed (no tape) all edges / corners stuck down. However, once the part is removed, the bottom is curled. It’s not a huge curl, but it’s there.

@Alex_Wiebe I don’t think I know what the cause of it, but I do get the same results
