The elevons are done. Wings are nearing completion. Servo mounts and a second smaller spar are what’s left. Motor mount getting printed next.

Sweet looking. What is your covering? Any comparisons in weight to traditional balsa?

Covering will be balsa and shrink wrap. Weight so far is comparable to if I’d use balsa and ply. Not much heavier.

So by shrink wrap do you mean a product like monokote? Wasn’t sure if that would stick well to the plastic.

Yes, like Monokote but not that brand. I’m avoiding saying brand names. I’ve never considered whether it would stick to plastic… I’ll test. Luckily the whole model will be mostly covered in balsa as shown in a previous post of mine.

The wing in the picture weighs 61g. Balsa adds a few grams. Spar is carbon fibre 7mm and weighs 15 g. I estimate the plane will be about 800g all included. This gives a wing loading of 3.2 which is light.

Estimated stall speed of 9 km/hr.

We’ll see what it all works out to in the end.

That is awesome. Thanks for the update and details. That makes building a wing and other parts so much easier and possibly strong (and when necessary easier to repair) then hand cutting from balsa and ply. Time for me to get started on some of my projects of similar nature. Like scanning in plans and tracing over the ribs and parts with CAD. Can’t wait to see your final build.
