The Elmer’s washable school glue stick disappearing purple increases adhesion to the 3d printing build platform to the object being printed. It is very easy to use and you can wash it off with water.
Is this printing in ABS, PLA or something more exotic?
Just ABS, I have seen videos of people using the same trick with nylon and PLA
Wouldn’t ABS juice be just as easy and less expensive?
I think a kid’s glue stick is a lot safer and easy to use than acetone.
You don’t want to drip acetone on 3d printed parts of your printed and it can mark painted surfaces.
It looks like you can also use it with PLA and Nylon.
I got my three glue sticks for 3.90 USD. A one quart can of acetone is about 6.50 USD. So the cost is very close.
I also personal like the idea of not having to use acetone.
I tried this gluestick (prit) trick on the blue painters tape for PLA and it works great. (Needed because after a couple of prints my first layers didn’t stick so well to the tape any more.)
That is good to know that it also works for PLA!!
Yeah it also helps fill gaps in the painters tape left by previous accedents.
I use this but with hairspray. No need for tape, can apply straight on glass. You will need to apply the hairspray, wait till dry, then gluestick on a cold bed. Heat up and your ready to go.
Why both?
Yeah. I just use hairspray on frosted glass w/ my heated bed heated to 65C for PLA.
I used both glue and hairspray separately and notice glue tends to unstick from the bed during long prints. Hairspray works but also isnt perfect. I tried both just to see what would happen andbit works surprisingly well. My theory is that hairspray will stick to the bed while the glue sticks to the hairspray. I have printed an entire spool back to back and had zero curling. Its hard as hell to remove when hot but when it cools, it pops right off.
If only the glue was available in South Africa. We, like most of the world have Pritt dominating the glue stick market, and the active incrediant of Pritt is not PVP
Oh well… More Kapton, Acetone, Hair spray, blue tape, ABS juice for me in the mean time
There is nothing stopping you from testing a Pritt glue stick. It may work?
Yea its worth a shot. Most hairspray use PVP as an active ingredient so it might bond well together.
@Quentin_Harley as noted above, pritt worked great for me with PLA
Good… Will try is soon!
Lol, Shane, you’re the one that told us about Somers glue!
