The long weekend has meant I can do a little more work on my delta printer. I discovered that even with the the strength of the frame and smooth rods there was still some twist in it when printing due to inertia so I have folded up an aluminium cover that is bolted to the printer. As well as adding strength it will also keep the heat in helping to keep warping to a minimum.

Since I was doing this at home I marked and cut grooves in the aluminium plate to act as fold lines. The depth of the cut was about 1/2 the thickness of the material (1.2mm plate) . Bending then is a simple case of laying some wood along the fold line, kneeling on it then folding the material up. Simple. Then the cover was drilled, the frame tapped, and M4 bolts fitted into the top and bottom plates of the printer making it incredibly rigid. Now to make a door.
