The marble holes project seems to be a success. The holes fit the marbles exactly, so I must have done my math correctly. Even at 1/32", there are visible stairsteps. I can’t decide if that looks cool, or if we should just cut the holes a bit small and sand them.

To make board games, which was my original intention, I realized that I’m going to need the marbles to be less than half sunk into the board, so that people can grab them more easily. Time to make a few tweaks…

Are you using a flat bottomed end mill? If you used a ball end mill you could program it to give you much smaller steps.

Yeah, there’s a good possibility I’ll end up using a ball end so it looks a little nicer. It’s easier to calculate some things with the flat end (each stairstep exactly touches the marble), but that kind of technical accuracy probably isn’t necessary when really it’s just a hole for a marble to sit in. :slight_smile:

I like the steps but not the fuzz. Perhaps roughing and then climb milling for the finish?
