The Mrs. wanted a 3d printed reindeer,

The Mrs. wanted a 3d printed reindeer, so I grabbed the ‘Holiday Christmas Deer’ from Thingiverse: 20" tall, 9 hours print time, 90mm\sec, 300 micron, .6mm nozzle, blue GizmoDorks PLA. Timelapse:

Pretty happy with the surface quality.

I like the “manual supports” at the 7sec mark

Very nice print for those speeds with so much retraction at the top.

I thought it may need a bit of extra support, so I lent a hand

Thats amazing!

Nice timelapse. Love how on the antlers just look like they are growing because of the little time the hot end stays on them. Makes me think of a trick to put the head out of frame before the z shift would be cool to make headless timelaspe of prints. Or even greater control of the slice of time to take the stills for other effects…

That’s a beautiful piece of art that its making me cry

Looks great! I love the smooth finish on the piece.

Great piece of printing, what actually you did at the 7sec.

I held the end of a metal ratchet under the nozzle as it was extruding, to help it from being unsupported. Looking at the model those angles looked too flat, but I didn’t want to have to generate support… so I just waited until that part started printing and helped ‘manually support’ it

What do you print on?

@Peter_Sharma : I print on glass covered in a 1:1 slurry of water & woodglue. I hit it with hairspray every so often to touch it up.

Hahaha way cool, I was meaning to ask what printer do you print on? Looks really nice and dialed in

Oops, I took that to literal
It’s a custom built “C-Bot”, you can get more info about it on my blog:

How did you get the smooth finishing for PLA?

In all honesty based on the lighting in the pic, and the size of the print make it look smother than it is. Although even in person people content on its smoothness. You can easily see the layer lines up close (it is 300 micron), but the overall quality and consistency is quite good. Which I would attest to the overall corexy design style of the printer, and my obsessive compulsive attitude to tuning print settings
