The SD3 resurrection is coming along slowly but steadily. The side walls are up and the clips work great. The fluorescent walls are going to be awesome especially since there is an LED strip inside the case. In these pictures you can also see the hot end installed in a Bowden setup. There are 2 screws from the original extruder sticking out that can be use to extend the mounting to add the laser. I had hoped to get motion today but family activities intervened so it will have to be during the week. Next up, install the new bed, new top cover (blue), and the door (grey polycarbonate). The spool holder is a Hatchbox unit going on top. After that @raykholo ’s board will be installed and connected. I can do all this in the space of 2 or 3 hours, but I just have to block out the time. If anyone has any input on where the extruder should go, please advise away. I like having it in top, near the spool and within easy reach. I’ve seen them on the rear (hard to reach) and side (consumes workbench space). Is inside in the printer’s side or on its floor a good idea? More news tomorrow. Hmmmm, I think I have an Instructable here…
Hi @Samer_Najia
What are the side walls made of?
It’s it safe for laser operation?
What power laser if so?
Polycarbonate. 3mm thickness. I like translucent vs transparent just to protect my eyes, although when the laser is working I will have my laser goggles on.
Looking cool,
Yes it is. Even in my dim garage the walls look eerie. Thank you.
Oh, I’m sorry @Panayiotis_Savva , xekhasa…the laser that is going on there is a 2.5W unit. Although I would love to park something bigger, I would have to revisit the carriage mount to do so.
@Samer_Najia Euxaristw.
I’m also looking at laser cutter/engraver options for my 3D printer
