The Smartrap build has been quiet lately on Google+.

The Smartrap build has been quiet lately on Google+. This is due to the fact that I burned out the ramps shield. I am waiting for my new one to arrive (I fortunately ordered it from the U.S.) and then everything is good to go on it.

I replaced the x axis with a new red piece which has near solid infill. I know this is overkill but the cube 2 doesn’t give you many options when it comes to infill settings. I was having a lot of torsion before and now it is rock solid.

Stay tuned for a first print coming very very soon!

Regards,
Griffin

Wow! This looks so cool! Minimum parts printer! I would like to build one myself, do you have the stls posted anywhere? Thanks!

How does one burn out a RAMPS shield? It’s pretty much traces and connectors.

@Gabriel_Petrut and @Carlton_Dodd . The files are ok thingiverse aside for a couple of optimized parts. And I was wiring up one of the endstops and I got the magic smoke. I will try it again now that I have it all wired up.

@Griffin_Paquette Let the smoke out of the RAMPS, or the Arduino? For the RAMPS, it would likely be a capacitor, or one of the driver boards; either is fairly easily replaceable.
Just trying to keep you from tossing a repairable board.

@Carlton_Dodd I just tried the board as you gave me some faith and it worked!! Everything seemed fine. The skoke actually came out of the ramps right where the power supply goes in (like where the screw downs are).

@Griffin_Paquette
Great! It was probably a loose power connection arcing. Be sure to get everything good and tight, or they can heat up due to resistance.

Hello Griffin, how much it has cost you to assemble this printer?

@Kartish_Nair it’s about $270 altogether. Including power supply and a role of pla.
