The Thingiverse Owl printed really well! It is on my desk at work and everyone loves it! It is about 7" tall. While I was at it, I experimented with speed and printed the spiral vase. It only took slightly more than an hour. I printed at .3mm. Not as nice as my red vase printed at .2mm. However, with the increased speed and larger layer, it was printed in probably 1/4 the time! I also printed the female bust that is on Thingiverse (not pictured for obvious reasons). That was my first print at .1mm layer. It looks fantastic, and really showcases what my printer can do! I will have to find another model to print at .1mm so I can actually put it on display.
Strange thing about the vase. I put water in it a few hours after it was done. It did not have any leaks. I tried again about 10 hours later to show my daughter, and water started to seep out in some areas. I have only printed in ABS so far. I should try PLA now.
I will have to print this. Abs shrinks after cooling. That’s why is cracks as it is cooling too. My vases have leaks but either hot glue on the inside or a makeshift container (half Gatorade bottle) glue inside works great.

Recylcing is good! I have been saving all my bottles. Plan on making a ton of custom planters and they just can’t leak.

Thanks! I do think I am lucky at times. I did have to work out a lot of issues to get this far, but we have a pretty good community that has been through all of the problems before me. I have a friend who bought a Robo printer. The prints turn out good, but the Z axis isn’t as clean as mine has been so far. Not sure of what is different.
Chad, I am not sure I follow what you are saying in context of my post. I am aware of services. I have a lot of contacts in the trade that could get me anything at a reasonable cost. I used to do consulting for a company that sold Objet printers. This is about 3D printing for the home and hobby. I could care less about a plastic Owl. It is all about the continuing satisfaction I get from creating something… both the owl and the printer itself. Calling me out with the comment of “…hodge podge BS” does nothing constructive.
