The UFIS project is moving forward.

Sorry for the late update on the UFIDS hangout.

Last night a group of 3D printer enthusiasts got together and talked about how we can help the community by assisting in creating a way for people to know the best settings to print a given filament by some sort of identification system. Join the Community linked to keep up to date and help this new effort.

The hangout roughed out what we’re going to do for our first pass.

  1. QR code with optimum temperature / filament characteristics (diameter etc.)
  2. Integrate QR code reading into Cura and Slic3r to be able to update slicing settings appropriately.
  3. Investigate current firmware status on using volume instead of filament mm as its unit of extrusion.

There is a basic QR code generator being worked on here and the general spec is being discussed both in the community and on the wiki.
