You should try Cura @Richard_Gain I found it produces a much better support structure than Slic3r. It’s only down side is that (at present) you can’t alter the support angle threshold but it’s due to be included soon.

@Daniel_Fielding - I do find that support on the side of a print, like the blue owl had, is generally much easier to remove than support material that lies under a horizontal beam.
Agreed, @Tim_Rastall , Cura is getting better and better. I often end up slicing objects in multiple slicers and then inspecting the Gcode in Repetier Host to decide which version to print.
