Thinking of adding 10 Watt LEDs to a staff for a project ive had in mind. Any safety concerns with this? They would be powered by LiPo batteries which will fill up the inside of the staff. And they would only light up for a second or 2 at a time.

as long as you take proper care of the LiPo

Would 5 LEDs at 10 Watts each so like 50 Watts be enough for a stun effect with the flash only lasting a second? Interested in making this for fun lol

I have done a couple of 50W projects and I would say yes. 50W is incredibly bright.

Yeah i want it to flash at full brightness for a second when the staff is struck and then fade away slowly

With WS2812B pixels on the inside of the stone at the top for fancy effects while its not being used

I’d consider using one or more 18650s as they’re round so hopefully will fit in the staff. Cases and charges/ charging modules are readily available. Just watch out for fake / poor quality batteries :wink:

Oh snap. And i was thinking oh putting 5 flat LEDs on the outside lol. That works much better!

My bad i thought you meant the LEDs were round haha! But thanks for the battery number i definitely need round ones

I’d also consider using LEDs like these… 1 PCS CREE XML XM-L T6 LED U2 10W WHITE High Power LED Emitter with 12mm 14mm 16mm 20mm PCB for DIY

You know. Ive never purchased from aliexpress. Is it as good as eBay?

Yes, it’s normally cheaper, but you have to be patient :wink:

@Jeremy_Spencer  how is this one?

It looks okay, the reviews are good. Check the weight when it arrives, that’s the easiest way to check that it’s probably genuine.

20A constant discharge with a 100A spike discharge. I think i only need 1 to run those LEDs lol

Yes, one should be plenty. You can charge them with the Wemos battery shield or any of the other li-ion battery charger boards

@Jeremy_Spencer the LEDs im looking at are rated at 10Watts for 12V now with 3 of these running in parallel it adds up to 11.1V this should be good enough to run 5 of the 10 Watt LEDs in parallel right? I mean the math looks right but im a noob so yeah lol

To be honest, I’m not 100% sure, but I agree it should work. If be tempted to test with a resistor (or trim pot for testing) in series too. Start larger and work down till you get the effect you want. Good luck
