This afternoon I’ve been building some turn indicators for my bike. The box holds an Adafruit Trinket, a 8 LED Neopixel array, a 440 mAh lipo and a charge controller. The switch goes on the handlebars. Every time you turn it on, you get a different light pattern. It can be programmed and charged over USB.
Ive designed both enclosures to be as small as possible, the switch will be fixed with zip ties, the indicator with double-sided tape.
Probably not street legal
Cool project. Nicely done!
It felt like I was at work (Whelen Engineering), we make emergency lighting…
While this is cool and would be great for safety at night, I don’t think people will understand the left and right signal. Is just a single line and from a distance it’ll probably be even more difficult to understand. Neat project none the less. I have almost no knowledge with programming so I wouldn’t even be able to build one of these.
Heres an idea if the cool animation for turn signal doesnt work out. Have 6 LEDs in the center play the usual animations and when youre turning have the correspondind end LED blink yellow. Just an idea. Awesome project by the way!
Thanks all for your suggestions. I’m currently playing with the turn animation, and I’m now leaning towards the animation modern Audis do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKtxKrNGrAY
