This could be either really good or really bad.

This could be either really good or really bad. I love sketchup for its easy 3d modeling but getting anything out in a useful format has never been the easiest.

Granted I haven’t actually tried to do anything with it yet, but there are many plugin’s available for generating g code. The thing I don’t like about openbuilds is their exclusive use of sketchup make (2013). Sketchup 8 has many more plugin’s and models made in it can be used by 2013, but not the other way around. Not to mention his use of components on any and everything makes editing his designs near impossible. I finally just created my own parts in sketchup 8, and hope to generate code from same…

I think k you can have both 8 and 2013 installed at the same time? If so you could whatever you needed in 8 and move over to 2013. Is it his fault for developing for the latest product or other for not moving with the times. Haven’t looked at his models to be honest. I normally just do my own stuff.

@Mark_McKinlay I do have both installed. Aside from rendering, I’ve yet to find the advantage of 2013 over 8. But yes it is his fault. In business you strive to appeal or rather make yourself available to as wide an audience as possible. Plus when you call yourself opensource, you should make things not only available, but also easily edited.

The over use of dynamic components and sub/sub/sub/sub/sub groups is another discussion. Not to mention there not being any rhyme nor reason to the groups, which make it near impossible to move parts so as to test their limits.

But all these pet peeves of mine are off the subject of your post. I’d be interested to see anyone’s experiences with g code within sketch. And I do think they have the best setup on the market…
