This is a 120mm high print of Cosmo Wenman's  scan of the Winged Victory

This is a 120mm high print of Cosmo Wenman’s scan of the Winged Victory of Samothrace that he posted on Thingiverse http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:196038

I printed it using ColorFabb woodfill in Makerware on a Replicator 2 0.2mm layer height and 5% fill, it came out very well.

Along with the Venus de Milo (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:196037), I think it’s an excellent start to a Classical chess set.

The wood fibres give a brittle (like fibreboard) texture to the support material making it very easy to remove.

I found that after about 6 hours printing (only 4 on this model) with a 0.4 mm nozzle*, there was a tendency for the filament flow to slow. I found that flushing the nozzle with normal PLA every 2 hours sorted this out.

*ColorFabb recommend a 0.5 mm nozzle

Thanks for the marvellous scans Cosmo, I need at least another 4 to complete the chess set, so I hope you share some more

What was the print time and layer resolution for the Winged Victory? Think I’ll do one in white ABS. If that doesn’t work, I’ll order PLA.

I scaled it to 120 mm high, layer height 0.2 mm fill 5% 2 perimeters, 90 mm/s. It took just over 4 hours to print.

I’ll give it a try when I get back!
