This is our custom made Corexy setup. I am facing some issues in this. CoreXY top is made of 2mm MS plate. Using 4.4kg Nema 17 motors, with Igus 12mm Linear Guide rails. When moving X and Y it is giving lot of sound.
I’m betting you’re experiencing harmonic vibrations due to the shape and mass of the top plate(excite by the stepper). If you put some kind of weight on the top plate does the tone of the vibration change? Try clamping some additional bar stock in places where it won’t interfere with the movement and see if it changes? You might need some doubler plates in strategic spots to dampen the vibrations(if that’s what is happening)
Also it looks like the front crossbar is buckling due to belt tension? I’d lay serious odds that is a contributing factor, compressive tension from the belts, excited by stepper harmonics = big ol’ tuning fork
Yeah i think that since the 2mm thick plate on the y axis is too thin, either bending or vibrating on the short unsupported sections. It might be better if the rail runs all of the way to the y bearing blocks. Also the plate the motors are mounted on might be acting like speakers, transmitting and amplifying the sound.
@jerryflyguy You are absolutely correct. The thickness of the plate is not enough. We are going to replace it with 5mm thick ALuminium plate. Will change and will get back to you. Thanks.
