This is our custom made Corexy setup. I am facing some issues in this. CoreXY top is made of 2mm MS plate. Using 4.4kg Nema 17 motors, with Igus 12mm Linear Guide rails. When moving X and Y it is giving lot of sound.

I checked the motor current, belt tightness etc.

What is the solution for this. Thanks in advance.

Do the motors move fine or is there binding?

@Stephanie_A Motors are moving finely without binding. Print is somewhat fine.

What controller board, stepper drivers and microstep setting?

I’m betting you’re experiencing harmonic vibrations due to the shape and mass of the top plate(excite by the stepper). If you put some kind of weight on the top plate does the tone of the vibration change? Try clamping some additional bar stock in places where it won’t interfere with the movement and see if it changes? You might need some doubler plates in strategic spots to dampen the vibrations(if that’s what is happening)

Also it looks like the front crossbar is buckling due to belt tension? I’d lay serious odds that is a contributing factor, compressive tension from the belts, excited by stepper harmonics = big ol’ tuning fork :wink:

Yeah i think that since the 2mm thick plate on the y axis is too thin, either bending or vibrating on the short unsupported sections. It might be better if the rail runs all of the way to the y bearing blocks. Also the plate the motors are mounted on might be acting like speakers, transmitting and amplifying the sound.

That’s a nice looking printer. Did you design it or buy it somewhere?

@Jim_Fong MKS Gen 1.4, A4988 with 16 microstepping

@Thomas_Whiting Thanks… We designed it based on the CoreXY theory.

@Jim_Fong MKS Gen 1.4 with A4988 drivers

I think Tmc2208 stepper is better driver. Have this installed in my 3d printer since then it is very quiet.

@Tech_World is there any chance the plans are available? I like that design a lot

Anything but 4988 - those things are noisy!

@Thomas_Whiting Yeah sure. Will send you the design. Please share your mail id.

@Robert_Winter Ok. Sure, will give a try. Will DRV8825 good than A4988?

@jerryflyguy You are absolutely correct. The thickness of the plate is not enough. We are going to replace it with 5mm thick ALuminium plate. Will change and will get back to you. Thanks.

@Stephanie_A Ok. Thanks. We are changing the top plate to 5mm thickness. Will update once it is done.
