Timing belts are in essence the same thing as rack and pinion, they are simply cheaper to get precision parts made than rack and pinion. Regardless, I’m sure you’ll discover some excellent findings in your research. Please be sure to post your results. Good luck!

In fact I’m even using belt as a rack for the moment, but since I’ve seen some printed rack& pinion by pacmanfan years ago ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8938) I wanted to try to print them too. Replacing the belts already integrated in the aluminum profile of my repraps will keep things neat ^^
