This model was a tricky thing to make. The reason for this was the human head model had to contain all of the internal empty voids of the sinus cavities including the Frontal Sinus, Ethmoid Sinus, Sphenoid Sinus, Maxillary Sinus, Pharynx, the Nasal Cavities and the external facial features.
Two start with we took CT Data from a scan of the patient, this was then turned into a printable file call a .STL file (standard triangular language). The electronic CAD model was then cut into six slices, Then location luggs were added to each slice to aid accurate reassembly of the slices when printed and stuck back together. We cut the model into slices so that the internal cavities could be accessed and cleaned of support material. Six parts were then printed cleaned and reassembled. This medical model will be used to track a gel like material that is injected via the nasal cavities.
