This stupid spool of red PLA drive me nuts…
Last time it bended in the extruder… And now it’s making knot… And of course this cause the print to fail, at 95% done…
Hell!!!
I know the madness, and feel for ya!
A tangling spool is not the manufacturer’s fault, it’s always user error (there is no way a spool can be wound with crossed turns like that).
Unwind a few meters of filament off the spool sideways (!), a good bit past where the entanglement happened, then rewind it. To prevent the filament from tangling again, never let go of the end of the filament unless you a) load it into the printer or b) have it fixed to the spool!
You have a “crossed loop” in the spool. Don’t unroll, but lift over the lip of the spool, about 4 loops, then rewind the spool.
Should fix your issue
tie it to your bumper, get someone to hold the spool and go for a drive up the road, Then just wind it up again
Have fun
@Jason_McMullan that’s what I did. Indeed it worked out.
By the way, when I see this kind of random winding, I everytime praise quality manufacturers. See spool detail from Fillamentum.com for example: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CicJRTpWUAA1d7B.jpg:large (my today’s picture from Twitter, only coincidence).
Like @Thomas_Sanladerer said, this is always user-error.
I just store my spools on a rod above my printer. Have never had any problem like this. Have had an occasion of having the filament falling down on the rod and getting stuck. But that was just me being careless with a new spool.
How does your setup looks? Am very interested in getting to know how this was caused. in what angle is the filament pulled from the filament roll?
I try to store and use the spool vertically and secure the end when not in use. Haven’t had that problem in a long time.
