With shipping, that’s about $14 a meter. I can get the usual 5-volt strips for about $6 a meter and throw in a 3A buck converter for $1 for every meter for a total of $7 a meter – with the ability to use 5-volt, 12-volt, or anything up to 35-volt power supply. I’m not sure I see the benefit.
If I’m saving $7 a meter, I don’t mind four extra soldering points! Everyone will have their own preferences though… one meter with two voltage options OR two meters with one voltage option (or unlimited voltage options with the buck converter and some soldering). At this point in my projects, I want more blink (LEDs) than bling (dual voltage) for my money.
A quick look found the below for $8/meter for 60 LEDs a meter.
But the above are “buy now” prices. I’ve found them for quite a bit less with bidding. You lose a lot of the auctions, but the ones you win are worth it. Not a good option if you have a deadline though.
@Jeff_Mizener As reliable as ANY eBay seller when you’re trying to pay the lowest price possible.
I ordered 10 reels of 5 meters each (will be trying to light the outside of my house this summer – in time for Christmas 2016). 9 out of 10 worked perfectly. The 10th one only lit up to the 12th LED on the strip. I’m sure it’s just a bad connection somewhere, but I haven’t had time to pursue it. I contacted the buyer and he/she is sending a bunch of clips and connectors to try and help me solve the problem – so I appreciate their effort. Considering I’ll have to chop and join some of the strips anyway, it won’t be a big deal for me to fix a connection or even discard a bad LED.
now this is a nice find, i tend to buy WS2812B 60/m for $9/10, but this $8 is the lowest i’ve ever seen. I’ve sniped auctions at $8.5, but this is incredible. Nice find.
