Top layers need some more tweaking. It looks rough at the moment. Slower print speed at the top? Otherwise sides is really good I don’t see any rippling or ringing :+1: there’s quite a lot of stringing though. First time using Bowden here. Retraction was set to 5mm already. Is more than 5mm long retract normal for bowden?

More than 5mm in PLA would give you clogs as the hit filament would move to the “cold” zone. Try reducing temperature instead.

Step, I use for bowden 6,5mm and 100mm/s retraction with good results for PLA and PET-G. I have e3d v5 clone hotend.

Too much retraction and you’ll get under extrusion…

But I have very good prints…

What kind of extruder you are using?

100 seems high… I retract speed less than half of that… Maybe i should up my retract speed too

Extruder on Photo. Try higher speed. What kind of extruder do you use?

Just got E3D titan…

Is that a PRINTinZ plate? I hated it.

the plate has been good for me… though I only printing PLA. any particular reason why it is not working for you? I’m curious since I prefer this better than blue tape and builtak

I’m currently using BuildTak’s FlexPlate but with PEI instead of their sheet on top. The PRINTinZ plate was too thick for the inductive probe on my Simple Metal to register the thin layer in the middle. Additionally attaching it securely without compromising build are was an issue but that really depends on the printer model. The plate I got from them was also warped a bit.

I think Terrence Tam did some experiments for the Kossel and found that 150-300mm/s retraction was ideal. I use 200mm/s and 6.5mm on a genuine E3D v6.

Could you elaborate on the printer in the picture? It looks like something I’m planning to do with my mendelmax.

If you mean my printer, it’s a crane style printer the z and x are sick openbuild assembly

Cool thanks, I’m not going the crane route but I really like the coaster style linear stuff
