Transparency tests:
Using Natural PLA. From left to right:

  1. single shell.
  2. single shell, vase mode
  3. double shell

Findings: single shell is stronger than I expected. Double shell is still somewhat translucent.

Conclusion: natural PLA could be used as light diffusers.

I use 2 shells for kid proof globes with Pillow pet led sets and they are bright. All most too bright on natural PLA. The Green PLA is not as bright but fun enough. I just need more Z axis height.
What is your Vase mode? is that .01 instead of .02?
The Blue cup in background looks nice too.

I’m using .3mm layer height. How do you print an actual sphere?

Oh yeah. The cups in the background will be in another post

@Joshua_Marinacci I made some in 123d I call it shark tooth. No infill, no top 4 bottom , it makes a good shell at 2 perimeter

Are they half spheres? I’ve done half spheres with the open end at the bed. The edges are fine but it falls thorough at the too of the dome.

Duckon?

Woah. That’s awesome!

Can you send me a pic of your spheres?

When you say ‘spheres’ do you mean the round spikey vases? Do you have STL models you can share?

Ya the spike globes and their inverse are my best prints. The sharktooth is mostly pure globe but tooth pattern cut in. I will maybe upload to thiniverse and share.

not mine but here is globe on thingiverse.
