Trying to figure this problem out with cura (latest version). When it goes to these small screw holes there isn’t a retraction. This causes the filament to ooze away (and string) during a travel move and not be able to use the extra filament prime so I’m getting inconsistent hole sizes. Cant seem to find which setting it might be.
I literally posted this exact same thing a little while back. Unfortunately I never got an actual reason. I’m wondering if there’s an option to print holes last or something so the print head travels over the part instead. I know there is an option to travel over already printed areas but that doesn’t help if it hasn’t printed anything to travel over. If you find out, let me know! It only seems to happen on big prints with holes that are far apart. A problem none the less…
from what little i know of cura… there is a setting that says " travel before retraction" i believe. this sets how far it must move before retracting. it is is the retraction settings. You can go to the advanced mode and put your mouse over the settings in the latest cura and it will explain them to you. i hope this helps even a little.
Huh, I noticed the same where I printed a part last week but thought it was just my printer. Thanks for posting. I’ll check my settings.
@ED_Carty you mean retraction minimum travel? It’s set to .8mm but the holes are spaced quite a bit further apart than that.
try setting combing to “no skin” or turn it off altogether.
@Mark_Burton Thanks! Works perfectly now with combing off.
@Mick_Purcell if its still not working with the combing settings off then did you check the extra prime amount after a retraction? About the only thing I can think of that would cause this problem. Have a Bowden setup and my extra prime amount is .6mm
@Mick_Purcell No problem, let me know how it turns out. Also check travel speed, usually should be at least 150mm/second to minimize the amount of filament that oozes away
Slic3r has a feature for internal perimeter first or last
@jacob_haney Yes that is it.
