Update: I figured out my issue.

Update:
I figured out my issue. My Z axis threaded rod is bent and it’s causing my nozzel to shift back and forth slightly. I’ll be fixing this and see what happens.

Original post:
Earlier I made a post about some cheap filament and so far so good. I finished my first print with it and I can say it turned out pretty well. My next issue can be seen in the picture.

I’m having an issue with my Y axis. As you can see it’s not consistent. How do you fix this? I see and here about all kinds of settings like “jerk” but I don’t know what they do or really how to adjust them. Is this even something I can even fix being that I have a very cheap printer? It seems like I should be able to. I don’t have this issue nearly as much on the X axis. Thoughts? Suggestions?

That’s Y axis wobble. Likely something is loose. I used to get that with all-screws, also. If everything is tight, you may want to upgrade them to trapezoidal types screws.

@Kura_kuea the heck are those?

Post a pic of your Y axis mechanics

@Kura_kuea this is what I have. It’s not exactly the same but 99%. There is a little wing nut in the front that’s for tightening the Y axis so I gave that a few turns. That piece in front isn’t very strong and flexes under tension so that’s probably why I’m having this issue. I’m sure it’s bent a little over the last few months. I’ll have to design a new one and machine it out of aluminum. That should hold up better. We’ll see how my next print turns out.

@Kura_kuea it just has a motor in the back and the tensioning screw in the front.

@Kevin_Danger_Powers A picture would be preferred, but is that axis driven by a screw or belt? Ah now I see the pic

It does look like that part that supports the build plate may not be very rigid. If you are able to flex it around in relation to the rest of the frame, it would definitely give you print artifacts. What speed are you printing at?

Another thing to check: do the ripples on the printed part line up with your z-axis threads?

you can get a cheap printer to print well as long as the frame is square , the bolts and belts are tight and the extruder is calibrated spot on… z wobble is the last thing to look at , first get the rest right… this print is a mix of z wobble and the y/ x axis skipping mostly due to over current or something loose. also could be your frame is not square!

@Kura_kuea yes, the that part that sticks out of the front can be moved. It usually sits pretty flush though. I will work on stiffening that up. As for speed, that was at 50mm/s but the walls print at like 30mm/s so it’s not like it’s that fast. As for the ripples ligning up, I’ll have to check.
@ekaggrat_singh_kalsi I’ll have to make sure everything is tight. Honestly, I don’t even know how tight is tight enough. But as a little update, I did tighten up the screw in front there and while the print isn’t done yet, it seems like it’s looking better already. Time to tighten this beast up! Actually I just remembered that one of the drive rods on my Z axis does have a slight wobble to it and now that I think about it, it may cause the nozzel to move just a little bit… That may be more of the issue here… I’ll look into that first.

@Kevin_Danger_Powers why do you assume it’s a problem with the y axis? I could see the same effect on my CTc i3 Pro B due to it’s very poor M8 lead screws and its overly flexible frame. Are the irregularities about 1.25mm apart?

@Martin_Klein well the Y axis is where I’m having the issues. And if the issue isn’t happening anywhere else, why would I assume there is something else wrong? I’m still new to 3D printing so I don’t yet have the ability to know what things could be wrong.

@Kevin_Danger_Powers I saw from your other post your Z rods were bent. That would produce this type of issue, which is why I asked if the ripples lined up with them. I would recommend replacing them with trapezoidal T8 screws, if you don’t already have them. ;D

@Kura_kuea what’s so special about these rods? Are they just high quality?
