Update to the 1/2 in. Conduit printer build. Decided on final designs for motor mounts and pulley idlers. Fame seems nice and stiff so far but won’t know for sure until the rest of the parts finish printing. Any ideas for x/y guide rod holders? I was thinking a simple clamp design would be best but can’t decide between vertical or horizontal rod setup for extruder carriage.
Looks like you will have a nice sturdy frame. Looking forward to the final results.
On the extruder carriage support I would go with one that eliminates cantilevers. Something to consider.
Frame all assembled minus the screws! https://profiles.google.com/photos/111464289162600838321/albums/6520355547232140209/6520355555538136450
How does it hold up torsion wise? For example, Top twisting out of square with the bottom.
Not much at all at the moment. Getting things square is going to be time consuming as the holes need to be drilled perfectly. Once those are in it should be completely solid with no twisting whatsoever
Your printed parts look pretty decent! Nice quality
@Mike_Meyer2 Thank You! That’s about the best I could get my Anet a8 to print with an e3d v6 clone and Bowden.
I would rather see a clamp only based frame design for conduits. As it will allow adjusting the geometry and will hold much better than a single “through all” screw. Also easier to implement, as you wouldn’t have to cut 1/2" tubing super precisely.
@Alex_Koukarine yeah I’ve thought of that. Already cut, ground down and beveled all the edges to match eachother perfectly. I wanted to go with a pressure fit to reduce the print time some and have more “meat” around the pipe to make it more rigid. Everything is a tight pressure fit as is, but you’re right, would have saved some time with the grider that way.
@jacob_haney No problem, just a thought. It will work for you, no doubt. Though with time you may want to dial-in adjustments for the plastic deformations/wear and that could mean re-printing all the corners (which is no biggie actually), while the conduits work will remain current.
@Alex_Koukarine Yes, MPCNC for the win.
