I have an issue connecting to the board using Linux. The documentation mentioned that Linux is supposed to be easier but I cannot understand what I’m doing wrong
Here is what happens:
….
1 I get the following error from dmesg immediately after I connect the board:

The lsusb reports not device connected for the smoothie board.
Other facts:
3. I’ve tryed it on 4 Linux flavours and laptops (Ubuntu, Fedora, CentOS, Scientific Linux). The only common part is that all are 64 bit.
I’ve try from a Windows 7 laptop and it works OK … but I need to use Linux.
If anybody has some insight please leave a message.
I think I am having the same problem. I simply cannot reliably connect my laptop to my Smoothieboard. I know my microSD card works because I can read/write to it through other card readers. I’ve even tried different USB cables. The weird thing is, Smoothieboard worked when I first set it up. I had motors and fans running but had not tried my first print yet. Then I made some adjustments to the config file and it seemed like my microSD card got corrupted. I formatted the card to FAT32 (and later ext2 just to try) and it worked as storage but I was no longer able to connect to Smoothie. I connected successfully one time when I had the board totally unplugged from everything and just running off my laptop USB but when I later reconnected all the wires it would no longer mount the card through Smoothie or connect in Pronterface. I’m running Lubuntu 12.04LTS. Tried it on another laptop running Lubuntu 13. No luck. I haven’t tried Windows. I don’t use it and I hope I never have to again.
I am having similar problems, only mine started in windows 7. Like mr123, I had the board connected and was controlling the printer until I made a small config change and reset the board. I got a brief message that the sd may have been corrupted, but no amount of reformatting, example config files, and restored sd files will get my laptop to recognize the board again. Was just able to view lsusb in linux with the board connected, and can’t see any evidence of it’s existence. In windows, I just get a “device not recognized” box everytime I connect. SD card works great in an adapter, leds indicate smoothie is running on the board and power is appropriate, just no usb. Anyone find a solution for this?
