Using Inkscape to turn a logo image into 3D object.

Using Inkscape to turn a logo image into 3D object. I swear I saw someone posting here a simple instruction on how to do this a few days ago but I can’t quite find it. It was about using Inkscape to trace bitmap and saving it to SVG to import to Tinkercad to be able to export STL file out of it…
Any one can help me find that post? Thanks so much!!!
#3dprinting inkscape #tinkercad

It is really easy in openscad

I saw this one on Linkedin http://www.freethoughtdesigns.com/?p=976 (not Inkscape though)

@Camerin_hahn
Hmm, I just installed Openscad but can’t seem to find an option to import an image file to be able to turn a logo to become 3D object. Am I missing something? Thanks

Load high contrast bitmap into Inkscpae, use the built-in trace tool, save as SVG, extrude path in OpenScad. done. That’s the short form.

This is a very complicated approach, the post I mentioned above has 4-5 simple steps that actually worked perfectly, I followed them and turned a logo into a 3D object. That was several days ago before I was reinstalling my OS, I usually save nifty instructions like this, but this one slipped out. Thanks for your input though…

This does the same, in one simple free application:

Much easier.

Edit:
Oops, I thought you wanted a photo-stl conversion.
Well, you could still use this with a Logo, then just cut off the bottom part.

I remember you posted a reply to that post too about this photo2mesh software. Can you please provide me the link to that post? Thanks

Import function, linear extrude, then. There are examples all over

@Renat_Z What are you intending to do with the 3d file: print it to scale, CNC it, or plain old render?

Blender is one of the easier tools for taking a 2d svg and making it 3d.

Andrew, Tinkercad does it beautifully too. It’s the bitmap tracing that I’m trying to find an easy way to do…

You could trace bitmap in inkscape and save as svg or dxf
