Very interesting read on how different fan/shroud combinations can effect print quality. The article is written about the PrintrBot Simple, but I imagine the data applies for any FDM printer.
The end result is that he finds a centrifugal type fan seems to work much better than the stock blower. Which is interesting, as I’ve even seen at least one official PrintrBot video that had a PB Simple with the same fan setup that the author is testing here. http://www.desiquintans.com/coolingtests
I’m starting to think so myself, the adapter the author put up on Thingiverse lets you elegantly (well, relatively speaking) bolt one of these fans right on. It’s big and ugly, but I definitely don’t feel like the stock fan is doing much…
I have found that switching from the stock shroud to the improved shroud has good effect on the outcome of my prints. $5 is worth spending to try to make it even better.
