Very new to the 3d printing,

Very new to the 3d printing, got a printer from a company that went out. I got frustrated and in the corner it sat. Giving it another shot to try and get it working again.

I got a new MK3 heat plate. It is metal on one side and has the PCB on the other. I did get a glass plate for the top.

What side should be facing up, the metal or the PCB. I would assume the PCB but I could be wrong.

It really depends. I never print on the pcb itself, but on some material like pei on glass that’s on the pcb. Most likely it is pcb side toward the top.

Ok, so I can insulate the metal, put the PCB up and put the glass on the PCB,

Print on the metal side, PCB to the bottom.

@Keith_Applegarth that depends highly on the printer, printing material, and other factors. It really can work both ways.

@Justin_Nesselrotte It is a lot easier to damage the PCB if it is up top AND the connections are usually on the bottom… just my 2 cents…

My 1 concern is on the phoenix I could never get the build plate working right. I am worried about having the same problem. Maybe I will try it metal up and insulate the PCB, worst case i can try some thermal paist between the glass and metal

@Keith_Applegarth yes which is why I suggested not printing on the pcb directly.

MK3 is PCB down, metal up, the other way is simply wrong.

ok, so I will put the PCB down with that heat barrier tape (Bad design, they have a fan blowing at the bottom of the plate
