Volker Klaffehn   Thomas Sanladerer   Showing another example that a print fan helps

@Volker_Klaffehn @Thomas_Sanladerer Showing another example that a print fan helps tremendously…

Here is the same exact model, filament and gcode, but I forgot to connect the fan for the model on the right (Currently it is manual). I am using an Prusa I3 with an E3D bowden mount and a blower style fan.

It’s gray PLA from BAMTac, 200C first layer 195C after that.

scary  I think a fan will help on matrials which get quite fluid, as PLA or PETG, but not so much on ABS, because ABS shrinks alot while cooling down.

Well ABS generally doesn’t even need a cooling fan unless you’re doing a single very slender tower, and use as minimal as possible. Too much cooling easily hurts because of shrinkage during cooling. PLA seems to need it most, but not all the time. Usually doesn’t hurt though, easier to just leave it on. PETG benefits from cooling for bridging and some slender vertical sections. Usually minimal cooling needed though.
