Watching the videos from MRRF (Midwest RepRap Festival),

Watching the videos from MRRF (Midwest RepRap Festival), one of the questions I heard (forgot from whom) was:

“What is next?”

Um? Hello? This should not be a question, unless you are captured in some echo of Helsinki syndrome. At present we must apply a lot of local knowledge to make prints work.

At present, local expertise is required for 3D printing to work well.

There is a lot of value in this space.

One of the next steps is printers that behave predictably relative to a well-defined common benchmark.

Eventually, 3D printers will be reliable the same way 2D printers are: not entirely problem-free, but enough that you don’t need to understand how they work to use them.

Not to quibble, but for future reference it was MRRF (Midwest RepRap Festival)
