Well, cut it close on that spool.

Nice

I’m really suprised no one has capitalized on the filament sensor.

Best way! Hard to find anything to do with those short pieces.

No filament wasted there!

Once finished a print with the last of my filament disappearing into the extruder. It was like a day long print so I was ecstatic that i didn’t have to start over.

Not yet started into this tech; just lurking. But wonder whether there’s a calculator of some sort allowing an estimate of the amount of filament needed for a specific design. In other words, whether the slicer or other software includes an estimator of the length of filament needed. That plus a formula equating filament weight and length (length per gram) would prevent collecting a lot of partially filled spools. Or is there something in this tech (apart from that welder M Kerger mentions) that circumvents this issue?

Pronterface will tell you the length of filament needed for the print. I’ve been working on getting a weight equivalent because the spools are usually sold in 2kg rolls.

@Niko_Fabri where do you get 2kg spools?
I think weight is the wrong way to measure filament. I think it should all be based on length of the spool. Plastics weigh differently from eachother and other types of filament just makes it confusing in my opinion.
