Well, I finally joined the exclusive “print separated from bed - hot end engulfed in filament” club. This is my Printrbot 13s hot end. I turned on the heat and managed to get it all off and it works right, but the sock did not survive the incident. I looked on the website and it’s not listed for sale, I had previously ordered some replacement for the old Ubis but it’s smaller than this one. Anyone have any recommendations ?
It’s called fire sleeve at your local auto parts store.
Any idea why that happened?
Looks like it wasn’t properly tight
I know we sell these … I bet CS would give you one
^ worst they can say is no!
Hahaha
That is beautiful!
Well, the first thing that happened is that the print came loose (I think since I wasnt running octoprint to record a time-lapse, since It was just direct connect) and then it got clogged and backed up, but yes Brooke, it did seep out from between the ceramic part of the hot end and the rest of the body. I have seen this happen to other people who leave their prints unattended. I did search the site again but if I dont find the sleeve at a local automotive store I will email customer service, thanks !
I noticed recently on my Printrbot there was an annoying vibration sound and turns out my hotend was loose… I’m so glad I caught it before something like this happed… I check it frequently now…

These are the red socks… But happy to send one
This is a reason why you must watch your prints!
Lol yeah I know @Scottie_D369 but I really had to step out during this print
You can’t watch all prints. It’s just a fact. You can have sensors and monitors and all but stuff happens. I print a good amount of stuff for 3D hubs and some prints exceed 6-7 hours. I can’t sit there the whole time. Parts separating from the bed is not fun but it happens. I am a firm believer in PEI and a heated bed as I think that’s how you get the best adhesion.
@Evan_Nguyen I went to the 3 large franchise automotive stores and none of them had it that size, they ones they had were considerably larger. PB CS it is =)
