Well, not totally bad.

Well, not totally bad. Somehow Cura forgot to slice the top layer, but it’s good enough for my first ABS print. I would appreciate your comments.
Layer hight 0.2mm,
Nozzle 0.35mm at 245 C,
Bed temp 115 C
Year old ABS.

Not bad for a first print!

Yeah, looks pretty good for a first print. It took me months (not fulltime) of optimizing and tuning my Velleman K8200 to achieve this quality.

If you haven’t already, I suggest going through Triffid Hunter’s calibration guide: http://reprap.org/wiki/Triffid_Hunter’s_Calibration_Guide

I think you’ll get much better results after that.

@Jeff_DeMaagd Yeah, could an should do that, but I’m a tad lazy. But you’re right ofcourse. Next week. I will. Promisse.

Looks like top layer thickness should’ve been increased a bit.

@Sergey_Ivanyuk
Cura didn’t provide a top layer for some reason. This was done with the cura engine that comes with repetier host, and it is not the first odd thing I’ve seen with this combination. Trying to slice a solid cube did not produce anything. Only a heated bed / extruder, and some useless motions. I will try the original Cura next week, see what happens.

@Hendrik_Wiese
Well don’t feel bad about that. It took me a year (not fulltime) to build this thing.

@Miguel_Sanchez
Thank you. I was pretty pleased myself.

@Rien_Stouten From your photos, it looks like it did produce a top layer, but only a single one - it’s clearly different from the infill, so if it printed a couple more the top surface would’ve been solid. You can see that the narrower surfaces have a solid top, it’s only the really wide one that didn’t - probably because it didn’t bridge as well as the narrower one. Looking at the GCode itself would tell you for sure, it’s a good idea in general to do that before printing.

For a first print, you should be quite happy.

@Sergey_Ivanyuk I am. Happy, that is.And as for looking at Gcodes…not really my thing. Sorry.

I mean the visualization of it, not actual GCode itself. Either Repetier or Cura can show it visually, it’s a great way to learn what the various slicer settings actually do.

@Rien_Stouten
I don’t. It has been an experience that I really don’t want to miss. And ignoring all the filament I have wasted, I’d say, it’s probably pretty much the same.

@Sergey_Ivanyuk Oh, OK. Well, the computer I am using for slicing is somewhat slow, so visualization with repetier is not very useful for me. Next time I will try Cura without repetier.
