Well, the Just3Dprint eBay shop is lacking somewhat in products…

Looks as though eBay (or Just3Dprint) have acted.

Please double check to make sure your items have been removed.

Bad luck to Just3Dprint! I think that’s the beginning of the end for them.

Check out their feedback page:

Item on the list 11 is your Aria:

3D Printed Game of Thrones Aria The Dragon Model! (#261964153371) US $30.00

They owe you at least 30 bucks too.

Wondering how they have no negative reviews, when they have one that says “very messy, nothing like the picture”…

The shelves are looking a little bare. Congrats @Louise_Driggers , the power of the community and your hard work are awesome. We need to keep our eyes open - sometimes when you pull a weed, it sprouts up from the roots somewhere else…

Looks like they will have to design stuff themselves now

shop is empty!

Great! - I didn’t yet get back my VeRO reply from eBay - Maybe they had enough.
I wonder if this is because of Makerbot/Thingiverse/Stratasys Lawyers or if eBay removed all the listings - they did have other items for sale that were not 3Dprinted models.

@Richard_Horne may be it is easier for them to ban the seller above a given threshold (or empty all his store). This would be fair imho

I suspect Ebay just suspended them while they shift through the VERO backlog.

Ok, so now the discussion turns to: with proper attribution and NOT using the items marked AS NON COMMERCIAL USE (or whatever it’s called) if someone opens to sell items printed for sale on eBay, just like the the other services out there, would the community support it in a positive manner?

@Stephen_Shimatzki I think we would support them; but, since most of the community have printers, their use would be limited. I think they would have to be exceptionally good at printing or be able to print materials that most users can’t or don’t want to print. What I do know is that copyright law is going to be a major issue with 3d printing (and scanning).

@Stephen_Shimatzki well, there is some room between “supporting with a positive manner” and “not getting outraged” E.g. I would not complain if someone starts to sell my CC-BY design, but I will not support him either (unless he gives me part of the benefits, which he would not be required to do by the license). But I will get angry if it is a CC-BY-NC and the guy neither asks nor mentions me, which was the case here. The best attitude before selling would be to tell/ask the designer in the first place imho, whatever the CC license, it would be nice

@Alan_Thomason I’ve actually been surprised the scanning wasn’t an issue before the printing! Think about the Nefertiti bust scan… While it’s not a copyrighted object anymore, they supposedly scanned it without permission. (i truly think it was a data hack, but I’m sure that’s for another thead)
As for the print services, I think that ebay, etsy, etc are the unrealized compitition to shapeways and other print services. And with 3d printer tech increasing and costs dropping, it will only be a matter of time before a few more folks start investing in better hardware for a profit. (i would if I could!)

Getting a decent scan is still a difficult and time consuming process for most. It wouldn’t appeal to people without patience.

Well, the above is true for the time being:-)

Well regardless of slightly murky waters left behind it’s good to see your + pic smiling

I still am super curious as to who did it…Was it eBay, directly, or did they get a nasty note from eBay or MakerBot? I know the end result is the same, but now I’m curious as to what aspect of the effort to bring this to a close actually had the biggest effect.

That I am sure we will never know. I suspect eBay - simply because everything from the store has gone, which suggests their selling rights have been suspended. Now whether that is a permanent thing or not remains to be seen.

I just received a VeRO response from eBay today - I suspect that the initial trickle of VeRO notices didn’t bother them much at the start, but the backlog of VeRO actions after this blew up must have started to hit them in the last few days, and was no longer a trickle to ignore.

Well, the end result is the same - I wonder if eBay will still do anything. Of course, I don’t know how many complaints were raised with them and how many it would take for them to make a change to the seller’s account. Maybe people with more eBay experience have a better idea. It’s likely just pointless speculation.

@Stephen_Shimatzki scanning is like recording off of the radio. You can do it for personal use, but if you distribute you would be violating the copy protection.

(As you are making a copy)
